This past September I was given the opportunity to make a contribution to the Great Outdoor Stores "How to Travel" series on my recent backpacking trip on the Wind River High Route in Wyoming. Below is the cell phone footage from that presentation!

The Superior 50

The day after finishing my first 50 mile race I knew that I needed to find my next event. I was happy that I had finished the Zumbro 50 but unsatisfied with my mental and physical performance. Anxious for the opportunity to apply the lessons learned I committed myself to the Superior 50. Preparation Training for the Superior 50 was grounded in the fact that I needed to prepare for the race without taking away from time from my family. This would mean getting runs started as early as necessary. If the necessary start time was missed because I couldn’t get my butt out of bed it was the preparation that would suffer, not time with my wife and daughter. Next I knew that running the flat bike paths around Sioux Falls would not be enough for the performance I wanted. After exploring the nearby hills I settled on a loop at the local ski bump that would have what I hoped to be adequate elevation and terrain to prepare me for the SHT. 2 Seconds

This past week flew by. I honestly felt like I blinked and it was the weekend again. I was barely ready for it. I have been so busy trying to stay afloat at work, have a relationship, workout, study for the CPA exam, and still have friends that I hardly have 2 seconds to take a breath during the day. I am in constant "go" mode from the time I wake up at 5:30 til I hit the sack at midnight. Anyway I guess that is what these trips are supposed to be for. Help life slow down for 2 seconds. 9:00 am Boe picked me up and we head out in his dad's pickup to meet our friend Tyler at the bridge on highway 42 (entry point #3). We were going to go south for 8 miles and get out at grand view county road (entry point #5) . We couldn't go on a really long route today because we needed to be back in town around 2:00 pm so that Boe could make it to work on time.
